Subscriptions can be found in almost every area of everyday life. Europeans already spend an average of 130 euros per month on subscription services today. With the launching of the “Thematics Subscription Economy Fund” by Nataxis AM, the investment sector has now got involved this trend for the first time. Explaining the reasons behind its launch, Nolan Hoffmeyer, the manager responsible for the fund says that he believes there will be further strong growth in the market. This is unsurprising, for according to McKinsey the subscription economy may record an annual growth rate of 100%. For consumers, it’s mainly the convenience that subscriptions bring that the most important thing. And they’re prepared to pay more for this convenience.

Changing consumer behaviour, above all among young consumers, is the foundation of the subscription boom. Subscribing to services or products is often more environmentally friendly and more flexible. The opportunity to use these products and services is preferred to ownership, and s so subscription models work in almost every sector.

This is reflected in the composition of the fund. According to Hoffmeyer, it consists of a diversified palette of sectors and has up to 50 shares in the portfolio. Currently, the fund is still the only one of its kind. It is to be expected, however, that other investment managers will add this trend to their portfolio in order to use the investment potential of this market.
