As 2021 draws to a close, we take another look back

nexnet celebrated 21 years and we started a retrospective with entertaining stories from 21 years of nexnet.

The first few months of the year were characterized by work on our new digital product, which will allow us to tap into new markets and target groups. We also went live with the new nexnet.cloud website. And we were able to recruit a group of beta testers to put our product through its paces. In November, we filmed a commercial for it. We had a film crew on site and watched the experts eagerly to see how a day of filming goes.

Our range of services has grown and we have been able to celebrate successes

At the same time, we were able to acquire new customers for nexnet and are delighted with our first successful collaboration.

In terms of information security, the nexnet team did a great job again this year. In the summer, we started with the expansion of the data center in Hamburg and introduced a disaster recovery management system.

We also successfully implemented the TISAX requirements for our system and thus achieved TISAX certification.

When Corona finally allowed it again, we were back at trade fairs - including the job fair: Traumberuf IT, as well as Einstieg Berlin. We had great conversations with very interested students and were able to give some of the fair participants a glimpse into the future.

We also presented ourselves digitally at SAP Risk & Finance live with an exciting presentation and a live case study on the topic!

The end of the year held another special challenge for us. The German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), the federal government's cyber security authority, warned of a critical vulnerability in a widely used software component called Log4j. We then did everything we could to close this security gap and protect our customers' data. However, as we reacted quickly and our usual defense mechanisms quickly took effect, we were also able to overcome this challenge.

We have a turbulent year behind us. But all in all, we can say that we acquired great customers in 2021, expanded our security concepts and also launched our own product. We would like to thank all our colleagues for their commitment and perseverance this year!

Work situations were largely determined by Covid-19

The year 2021 also began with the theme: Corona.

The pandemic continued to dominate our working and private lives. The federal and state governments tightened the lockdown once again at the beginning of the year, forcing us to close the office. But thanks to our modern way of working and the high level of digitalization, we were able to quickly master the transition between the office and remote work. We stayed in close contact with our colleagues via webcasts and chats. This enabled us to get through the cold season quite well. The pandemic situation inspired us to come up with new concepts for the office of the future. Many were in favor of a combination of a few days working from home and a few days working in the office. So it made sense to think about desk sharing, for example.

We also welcomed new colleagues on board again in 2021, who were initially trained remotely. Not an easy task! But thanks to everyone working together, we managed to integrate them into the relevant teams.

The European Football Championship was back in summer and some colleagues eagerly took part in the betting game. The main prize was a day at Tropical Island. Second and third place received various vouchers.

What's a must in summer? A barbecue party. As the coronavirus situation eased noticeably, we were able to organize barbecue parties in smaller groups on the office terrace. We had all missed these team events. It was all the nicer to meet up with colleagues again after work.

For the bike enthusiasts among us, we offered bike service days in the summer. Employees were able to arrange a free maintenance appointment with Yeply and have their bikes brought back into shape. There was also the "European Week of Sport" campaign. We took this as an opportunity to draw our colleagues' attention to the company sports program. Many of them signed up for the various indoor, outdoor and online courses.

Unfortunately, the corona figures rose again in November. Which is why we had to cancel our planned Christmas party. To get our colleagues in the Christmas spirit nevertheless, we offered our popular Advent calendars and Xmas food boxes. This time, we opted for climate-neutral calendars that are 100% recyclable. This makes snacking twice as much fun.

Outlook for 2022

Corona will be with us for a while yet, but we hope that we will be able to do more events together again in 2022. We are planning our product launch for the new year and we will be tackling more new projects. We are excited to see what 2022 has in store for us!

For now, we wish all our readers happy holidays and a happy new year!
